the colour is red

new years' have always been... not so good for me. ok i admit it. i've never liked (chinese) new years. i complain a lot, grumble and mumble a lot and i despise the gaudy chinese decor AND tongtongqiang cny music we can hear the minute we step out of the house. ugh!

BUT.... but...

i've been trying to be good this year. i mean, yeah i still complain it's boring, because it is. but at least i 'm trying to enjoy my mew year as best as i can. which is not much but it's a start. hey! a small miracle is a miracle. okayy.. maybe not a miracle, but change of attitude perhaps?

i realise that it's no point getting people to excuse your bad behaviour just by saying stuff like "oh that's how i am". if you're fortunate enough to realise your bad habits, then do something about it. now i must really see to my laziness...

every year, we seem to be less and less festive. i still remember the times of long ago when my gran's place would be totally transformed into 'china' once cny came around. and the food... oh the glorious food! that was the one thing i really looked forward to every new year. not even ang pow ok!! the bak kua, ribbon biscuits, peanut cookies... sigh... i miss all of them. every year, we get our stash of goodies from my kind kind aunts who bake the most delicious stuff ever. and this year, we (my family) finished every single thing even before new year. like OMG! we're like refugees in a famine! or this hungry pack of wild dogs. OMG. it seems like the less the food gets the more we try to make it up with liquor. i think this new year has been a lot about baileys and vodkas and chivas and shandy (though shandy doesn't exactly qualify as liquor. haha... can u get drunk on shandy?). still, i'd rather have my bak kua.

when all's said and done, blessed chinese new year everyone!
