and that's why musicians are hot

i loved this scene in corpse bride. actually i loved the whole movie... though yes, it's a tim burton film = morbid and bordering on slightly disturbing, but i think this was really a great film. soooo romantic aww...

those days

you know those times when you feel like you just don't deserve all the good things that come your way?
and why is it easier to be nasty to the people who love you most?how if people knew the real you deep inside, they wouldn't touch you with a yard stick?

pondering about it lah...
no i'm not a disturbed/tortured emo soul (well i hope i'm not anyway), and not wallowing in self pity either, heck no!

just...

coming to terms with how i'm lapsing back into my old "me me me" ways again.yes denise, it's time to wake up again and get your act together. it's just not all about you.

anyway,

i came across some of these pictures which illustrates what i wish i could do... being in a whimsical mood and everything :) don't worry, they're fun and happy things... i'm not gonna work myself into a depression over nothing. full of light, sunshine and laughter... that's me. okok that's going too far. so anyway...

i was just being my (occasional) bimbo self one day and i realised that i didn't have a plain white dress i could wear when i wanted to channel the pure innocent girly lazy days. i must get one some day... aye that i must. and walk bare footed in the fields.

more field pictures...
you might've realised that most of my happy thoughts are connected with big wide open spaces and grass. hmm don't know why... maybe it's just the idea of the outdoors and how nothing ever seems that bad when you're amongst such raw beauty.

and i know i said i didn't want snow in the winter cos it was wet and cold and only fun to gaze at from the warm house, but if i could look like that in the snow... bring it on winter! come to think of it, i would like to play in the snow and make snowballs and feel the snow all over my hair.

this weekend

so i had a pretty shitty monday after liverpool lost. but not really because of that. it was a monday and everything... not going great.

but now that the weekends are almost gone again... how soon!

it's the

last week of the first term. everyone's so busy now i feel lazy being so free. probably cos i've to hand in an assignment on mon so obviously i've finished it (me being me... aiseh. i haven't procrastinated much here which is surprisingly good.. hopefully it'll last). and i have only one test on thurs so i can afford to relax (?) during the weekends while everyone else is frenetically rushing to finish up their work. i feel like i should be panicking cos i don't feel stressed out at all.

and busy friends = boring weekend.

HAIH! it's a good thing the following week is the start of our 3 week break (yes!), so hopefully it'll be more happening than this. mom will be coming over for 2 weeks so we'll see how it goes... hopefully i can think of more places to go to.

but my weekend wasn't too bad :) friends have been very accommodating and patient in listening to me gripe about the lack of human company. heheh. i'm a grouchy bear when i'm bored. oops. must learn to be nicer, denise...

other than that, i think i miss my boyfriend.

ooh dinner soon! must go. toodles~

i think i loved my weekend

yes i think i did. had a lot of tiring fun this weekend tramping (hiking in kiwi-speak) sikit sikit, caving, and strawberry picking. i mean, i didn't usually do stuff like this back in malaysia, ok i only went caving once at gua tempurung. i guess most of you who read my blog'll probably have seen my pictures of it from fb the international kaypo machine. so go look if you haven't and are curious. it was pretty. very breathtaking.

and strawberry picking! such fun!

i went with a friend today to the farm which was some way off where i live; lincoln. countryside la basically. so what i had to do was sit on a trolley-ish thing on one of the many rows of strawberry plants and start cutting the ripe ones from the vines. a mild win was blowing, there were only a few other people there, it was quiet, the air fresh, wide open spaces, and the strawberries so tantalising... it was such a perfect moment. very peaceful. and to top it all, i actually picked something! being the city person that i am, i don't think i've ever picked so much as a tomato before. so this is definately new and novel. of course, you pay for the berries you pick after that. we're operating on the no free meal theory here remember? we rewarded ourselves with some ice cream with berry puree at the end. which made me happy... cos... ice cream always makes me feel like a little kid. which makes me feel happy :)

they're just so sweet... don't you just wish you could have some? haha... too bad but i'm eating them now... yummmmm

castle hill

apparently some parts of narnia were filmed here. well, not this particular slope but around the hill. this, my friends is not the actual hill (haha sorry to mislead you). in fact, the whole of nz is a walking location set for many epic fantasy movies.

jolly great outing and fellowship

but

i'm very cold and tired now.

and disappointed.
well, a little anyway.

can't tell you why.
sorry.
won't tell you why.

haha. bet you wanna know but i won't tell.
ok. childish.
i'm gonna go now.
for

dinner!
hopefully i don't have to walk far.
this probably makes me sound so
unfit
don't care.

i can't think of a title.

i'm so bored.

i'm so unhappening. lol. it's saint patrick's day and i'm at home and not wearing an article of green at all. it's just too cold to go outdoors. the cold is freezing my head to an ache. really. but i did brave the cold to go for a walk so i wouldn't drive myself crazy from being bored. lovely walk, lovely foliage, but hateful cold!

hmm... i wonder if my frozen bread (or someone else's frozen bread which was left unclaimed in the freezer for weeks) has defrosted already.

but you know what's awesome to do when it's all so cold and you have to bundle up in layers just to stop shivering? eat ice cream. yes really! for one, the ice cream takes a slightly longer time to melt and that my friends, is good news for one who takes her time in stuffing her face. ahh i admit, i might've slowed down my eating time even more since i came over. sigh... the ice cream here has spoilt me for other ice cream for always. it's just... heavenly.

great, my flatmate just told me my bread got burnt. my whole flat now reeks of cha hui tah bread. ugh! disgusting. ok maybe next time i should just microwave it :S now reduced to eating unhealthy choc cake. ahhh sad case.

it's been 1 and a half months since i came over. but it kinda seems like i've been here a long time. wonder if penang misses me?

i just realised how unfunny/unentertaining my posts have come to be.
oii denise, get back in shape!

eeps i should be sleeping now. okok i'm going off. miss me people.

loved my birthday

i had an awesomey birthday last week. and loved every part of it... from the wishes, to megan making me a birthday breakfast, flatmates getting me cake and singing to me as well, to dinner/supper at denny's with my crazy friends (with yet more cake). aww i felt so loved!
it made a great change from the rather miserable birthday i had last year, alone and hating it in kl. with no cake too.

anyway, thanks guys... for making the 12th of march so special for this girl here.

to digress... i thought i'd share something from pastor paul's sermon yesterday about husband and wives. it was umm... i would say, a very enlightening and entertaining service. hehe. well, most of it was about wives obeying your husbands (except when obeying him means for you to sin), and husbands loving their wives. but then, he said something which i'm sure will make all the girls out there feel super good about themselves... 'girls, you deserve to be pursued. and guys, if a girl ever asks you out (and you like her), you better repent quick for being such a coward.' hahaha. so girls, love is waiting to be ready... let the guys come to you aye?

he did go on to elaborate more on the kinds of guys a woman shouldn't ever go for but which i don't really feel the need of writing here (later i offend people haha), so ask me if you want to know more :) i'm always willing to help.

and oh guys... if you're clueless on how to show love to your gf/wife... remember this for a start:

i hate shopping.
but my wife loves shopping.
so i love shopping.

i'm starting to love NZ but...

i miss penang!

and i miss all the things i might be missing there.

i miss my family, my sara, my boyfriend and my girlfriends!

* * *

just when motherland starts to get blurry,
feels like unreality,
a dose of the past will help
because that's what i'll have for the next 8 months.
a taste of home, a glimpse of what i left behind.
but love goes wherever i go.
yours. mine. ours.

mostly about food

alas! there's no one here to take photos of me and tag me as the good people of penang usually did. well the friends that i hung out with and my wonderful boyfriend did anyway. so i have to resort to one of the most shameless (or shameful, depends on how you look at it) methods of getting my photo taken.

camwhore!

hey this is for the benefit of the lovely peeps back home who miss my squinty eyes and big mouth. this is all for you, not me
:P

i know you know you love me *grins*

***

uni life is crazy. i'm usually a very steady person who likes orderliness and can be stubbornly inflexible sometimes (to the exasperation of jt. hehe... sorry babe!), but i'm liking it so far. no i'm not into the clubbing partying scene (you can heave a sigh of relief now. go ahead, i know you were thinking it) but it's nice to let my hair down and be crazy and carefree once in awhile.

so far, i'm enjoying myself living where i am and my flatmates don't annoy me much so it's all good.

yesterday my equally crazy flattie (yes i know i know crazy has been repeated one too many times but this is my blog too bad for you linguists :P) made us this weird breakfast for dinner. yep you heard that right.

this is she

we had a regular buffet of... breakfast. with ice cream.

no your eyes are not deceiving you. they're bear pancakes with blueberry eyes and... a bellybutton?

and for the first time in my life, bought cookies from a girl scout fundraiser. the packaging is sweet considering that it's just girl scout cookies. i always imagined them to be homemade in plastic bags tied with ribbons. oh well...

ahh i miss penang food shoooooo much!
