my take on 'Sell Out'
watched sell out today with jootattmyhoneypie. and... it's actually not bad! and for a MALAYSIAN movie. don't get me wrong, i love my country but i almost never watch any homegrown movies cos one, the storyline and acting is boring... there always has to be a moral at the end which is lame. and two, they're always trying to be so darn artistic that makes everyone go "Wha-a-a-t??". good films don't have to be avant garde all the time.
anyway, i liked the movie. he didn't.
but, to each their own right? i don't think it'll appeal to everyone. this is one parody that starts out being totally nonsense (but with so much dry humour, so must listen carefully), but surprisingly ends up being meaningful. and i like the songs they sing, musical mah. i mean, they actually sound good! but my one peeve was that it had no ending. what la! i like movies that end. but what to do? malaysian movies somehow have have to all be artistic and indie looking... so, you can't have everything.
but i like.
if we continued coming out with watchable movies like this, hey, i might even actually watch them. who knows? anyway, anyone up for the french film festival? i was thinkin of catching a movie (detective one based on agatha christie's books) when it comes to gsc gurney. please please come with me...
