high/low lights of year 2006
3rd of jan 2007
a lil' too late; but better late than never.
so..... ladies and gents... let me present "highlites of 2006 as seen through the eyes of denise"
*drumroll laaaa....*
ok. let's see.
high moments
1. being elected prez of the canteen prefects .actually... i grew so sick of it towards the mid of the year i couldn't wait to pass the baton on.
2. planning, organizing and coordinating the board of canteen prefects' first ever leadership camp. a lot lot lot lot of work which pretty much compromised my 1st term tests.
3. elected secretary of string ensemble. good good.. i can see my ko-k marks rising. just what i need. heheh.
4. green house's marchpass team got 1st! all those sweating under the sun, getting yelled at and dehydration was not worth it, but at least we won. muahahaha.....
5. all the ignites! whoa! and also gettin the chance to back up for one of the ignites.
6. penang first's spirit of penang. being a part of my team.... all those priceless moments tearin up and down gurney and waiting for the nonexistent bus. although, although... my team lost (and badly) it was the best!
7. hawaiian night. had the crappiest fun crazy exasperatingly awesome time [with pris] coming up with our "item" to present that night. many many thanks to all (and i mean ALL) those who played a big/medium/small/minute role in it. esp to the jedi's, powerpuff gals, actors, director, narrator, light/sound/multimedia people, you guys were more than great. i can just see me gettin my oscar in 5 years time. sob sob.... aww....
8. helping to organize the annual fith formers' prom which is not called prom btw.
9. oh right....! how could i forget!!! my birthday of course.
10. spm.
oops! typo. just kiddin!
11. trippin with my classmates. genting-kl you know the rest.
12. cheqUP! awesome. submitted myself to a very much needed soulcheck. which reminds me that i've yet to write about it. patient you must be. dang that yoda.
13. all the supperin times with my buddies.
ok, now for the low moments of 2006. well, there's a time for tears and a time for joy right? i'm tryin to recall the teary times now. only, most of the time, i laugh til i cry. anyway, back to the point.
1. shifting house temporarily. to those who move around constantly, i so emphatise with you. all the packing, unpacking, arranging, cleaning, waiting around for new furniture... man, i would so rather NOT deal with that. plus, not seeing my doggy for like 3 or 4 months.
2. add maths. i'll never learn to like it. this is the only year that i failed once. and almost failed twice. horror!!! taking add maths exam is like asking me to eat celery which is tied with emperor veg as the 2 most DISGUSTING and VOMIT-INDUCING veg ever. yuck~!
3. SPM! shall we not get into it. just to think of all the things i missed just because of it makes me wanna shed tears. stupid spm!
4. gettin over him.
5. music lessons on sunday. i'm so immensely glad i quit!
and hey! that's about all i can think of. which is good right? the good surpases the bad.
finally, my belated resolutions for this year which is gonna be just great... i know it.
1. complain less (i'll just complain about relevant things okie?)
2. whine a lot less
3. be more helpful and proactive (please remind me because i forget all the time)
4. be a more happenin person. (i must go out more)
5. spend less (reduce 10% of usual spending)
6. play more sports (futsal futsal futsal)
7. be nice (even to those who make my skin creep)
8. jam more with my friends (must improve my music skills)
9. make more friends (refer to resolution no.4)
10. learn how to cook (learn more than just how to cook maggie mee)
11. improve my photoshop skills (perry help!)
12. be a less big headed person... and a good leader... and a less bossy person.
13. make time for God
hopefully.. just hopefully... i'll manage to keep 1/3 of my resolutions. so, remind me when i'm gettin too much ok?

self-explainatory
he finally told her he wanted to break up with her. he had found someone new. someone fresh, someone exciting. someone else to love. he looked into my eyes with passion when he said that and i knew he really meant it. he loved me. she listened and wept... her heart devastated, torn and shattered. i looked at both of them and i'm confused; how can such a beautiful thing become so wrong? he loved me and me, him. but it felt so wrong... my victory was someone else's defeat. i couldn't do it. i couldn't bear to see her so broken. i told him i just couldn't.
i woke up.
and damn! was it a scary dream. not only was i awake the whole night... i couldn't and still can't get it out of my mind. no, it's not happening in real life aight! it's a dream... only, a dream. but seriously, if i was me, in my nightmare... i guess i would do the same. i really felt like a child murderer at that time. being the so called "third party" is definately not how i envision my (nonexistent) love life to be. so God help me, please don't let me fall for an already taken guy.
speaking about my pathetic love life... man, it's really sad ler. i mean now, when i unofficially have a (quoting steff); passport to date... i'm feeling (to quote jimmy) as if bo lang ai. you know... i mean, i've never been on a date in my entire life! i've never had anyone look me in the eye and tell me that they love me and would do anything (within limits la) for me. never had anyone call me just because, never been kissed and never said "i love you" back. i've always been the friend, the mentor, the confidante, the crush, the girl.... but never the one. help me! am i undatetable? or maybe i'm too freakin choosy.
i know, i know... all in it's own time right? it's just that, i've waited for 17 (almost 18) years for him (though i don't know who he is yet) and... guess what? haha... an honest human emotion=> i'm getting just a lil' bit impatient. i just want to know how it feels like, to have someone special. to be 'just the two of us', to love and be loved.
and yet... even if he isn't mr right, he has got to be mr right now. ok, fine.. so what? i AM picky. it's not really about the looks but how we blend together... ya know? it's just gotta click!
anyway... i'm not going to go on about this *ahem* rather sensitive topic. i'm stronger than this... denise, you're stronger than this. well, this is so one of the 'denise bares her soul to the world' moments, so... yeah! that's pretty much what my soul says right now. blame the dream!
the lines between 2 seperate worlds are blurring. i don't know what i think anymore because what we have is something special... but i don't know how special. things are changing, i'm changing, but are you?

where's the snow?
tomorrow's christmas! i dunno, but i don't feel all that christmassy right now. anyway, it doesn't matter how i feel because He is the reason for the season. so....
MERRY CHRISTMAS everyone. and a blessed new year!
btw: after complaining that i wouldn't be involved in the christmas presentation, i volunteered to help with the prop shifting. lolx, not exactly a job for the gals but hey! what they can do, i can do too, just not as well. it's pretty cool... i mean, it's different from dancing every year... and i guess it helps me see things from another angle; a different perspective.
btw2: i'm sitting at home typing this out while my sis n my friends're celebrating the christmas countdown in gurney. so... does that make me a loser?

this week
this week is like, a really busy week for a lot of people. the christmas presentation people have got their drama and dance to do... the cheq up people have their stuffs to prepare.... altogether a very busy week.
as for me, i'm not involved in the drama this year (pity), so... i'm feelin a lil' out of things. i always love this time of the year. especially when my church puts up it's annual christmas gift to the people of penang. the lights... the props... the communal feeling that you play a role, no matter how insignificant in the show. the show must go on at all costs! and you are part of it. it's cool yea...? i just love the hangin out backstage and just feelin the showbiz for once. aikz! i'll be missin it this year. but nevermind, i can immerse myself in other ways.
but there's always cheq up. i can't wait for it! a lot of people are gettin cranky and overworked because of it but i think it'll be just great. God is worth the while. most probably will be performing about 2 songs for the night rally with "clinton's band". so, we've been practising. and hanging out with people that we usually don't talk to.
i miss a lot of things this year because of spm. yas camp, playing for serv, christmas presentation.... it's darn sad but heck! it's life. thank goodness there's always next year.

some reflection
it's time for some reflection. you know... since the year's coming to an end. well...
in person...
i don't think i've changed much except to be more friendly (i hope), especially to those that i seldom mix with. umm... and i hope i've been less of a snob and more of a caring person. also, i have learnt to look at (some of) my faults and try to correct them, i try. my faults including what i've really been convicted of... my power hunger and my tongue.
materialistically...
i still want stuff. when i go shopping... it just doesn't feel right to not buy anything. but, because of insufficient funds, rest assured i am most definately practising smart consumerisme. and after all my preaching and coaching myself to NOT covet, hell... i'm drooling over almost everything in queensbay. still... like i said, money does matter.
and.... well, thought i've done a few stupid things this year... i've also achieved a few things this year, namely... my driving license (yes, though i still can't drive yet). and one important thing i've learnt, and am still learning.. is to slow down a lil' and take things in it's stride. what's the use of hurrying and pushing to get something? and if shit happens... you've just gotta breathe and pray you don't lose it before tackling it.
you know... when things go wrong and everything seems against you, you really feel God all the more closer to you. i know i do. 2 weeks in a row i bitched about something and for those 2 weeks He understood me, ministered to me and reproved me. i say i won't do it again... but the next day.. i repeat it again. anyway, my point is, God is real. He is.
if this post doesn't sound me me... well... try swallowing something different once in awhile la. this is the more mature me... i hope. lol.

trippin in langkawi
seems like i've come back from one trip to go to another. haha. that's life. anyway, i can't begin to describe this trip so i'll let the pics do the job.i only hope they do justice to the awesome breathtaking sights that i just cleansed my eyes with.
this is at oriental village. and that person there ... is... well, you don't have to know really. anyway, the cable car to get to the peak of some gunung to see more gunungs.
ahh... there. the cable car station at the top. no, this is NOT genting highlands. it is really the top you know, when you get up there.
and the view here is spactacular, no? just look at those mountains. the sights, the air... it just makes you go.. wow! like really just feel so in awe of everything. nothing man-made can ever compare to what God made. it just blows my mind away ya know? everything just seems so insignificant when you've seen the splendour of nature.
see... see... isn't the view just umm... creative?
oh lookie.... nemo!
so yeah.. that's about it. except for the weather, langkawi really gets my 10 fingers up. i don't have pics of pantai cenang (the happenin place in langkawi) but yeah.. just had to mention it.

trippin part 2
on the 6th...
we went to kl. sat the shuttle bus down from genting. we, hehe, missed the bus that we were actually supposed to sit, and with a lil' persuasion (and looking vry innocent), managed to sit the nxt one without paying extra. but i guess we did pay for our tardiness. the bus driver really thinks he's in initial D or something. the way he drives the bus made the already carsick me almost puke out my buffet breakfast. oh yea, which reminds me, since i was one of the 2 early birds in my group (unbelievable), i got to eat the buffet while the others were still snoring away. lolx.
upon reachin, sat the lrt from gombak to kl sentral and then transit to midvalley. with a lot of help from mf. but now, i'm proud to say, i kinda know my way around ... it ain't that difficult if you know how to get there. we stayed at boulevard which is like,10 times nicer than cititel. for one, the bathroom/toilet is big, and pretty classy... and the place is much roomier than cititel.
ended up shopping (for me, rather reluctantly) at mv. i kinda became everyone's guide cos i've been hangin out there quite a lot of times. it gets pretty boring after awhile. disappointingly, didn't buy as much as i liked to. nothing much happened here. went to watch 007 at midnight and later, went back to bed rather cranky and with aching feet.
7th...
rushed back up to genting to catch our bus back. almost didn't make it because of the freakin long queue at the skyway. so, spent the time people watchin ( another of my many hobbies). saw these group of i'm guessin artsy-limkokwing-modeltype-jap-wannabe guys there who kept camwhoring and holding up the lines.
then, we ran and ran and ran from the skyway station to the bus stop which is like at opposite ends that my legs are startin to ache now. people must've thought we were a bunch of lunatics.
and then, the long long long drive home.

trippin part 1
it's just so amazing. one minute you're struggling to remember your hard-memorized facts and the nxt... you're sitting at home curing your bus-lag . to those who know me, you would know that i went to genting and kl on the night of "freedom" and well.. guess i'm back now. quite a trip i have to say... well, what d you expect when you're travellin with 5 friends and no adults?
so, on the 4th...
we took the 10 something bus to genting from the bus terminal. didn't sleep for practically the whole night... we talked, giggled, laughed, and privately insulted these 2 guys behind us whom we nicknamed "Z" and "J" coz they resembled some ppl we knew in pg. they were so annoying when ppl'r trying to sleep. throughout the whole journey, their convo consisted of
~remixed sexy back blaring loudly from headphones~
J: hey, shaddap la
Z: no YOU shaddup ler.
J: what me? go to sleep la you
Z: can you just shut the f*** up.
J: f***
Z: f***
J: eh, shaddup la.
~lighter flicking...~
reached genting (unfortunately, first world) at about 4 something. oh my, there's nothing better to cure your lack of sleep than fresh (or not so fresh) mountain air. went to get our number for checkin in. waited for almost an hour. then, finally... got our room. i hate 1st world. crime could happen there easily. the place is so huge, there're so many pigeon-hole rooms and the corridors stink of public toilets. but i can't complain, it was really cheap so...
went out to play at about 8 something. we were one of the first... so fun! there was almost no line for every ride. so, basically, we played and played, and played the whole day. oh, went to bed at 3 something in the afternoon, woke up at 5 and went to play again. met Z & J again, once at the boatin area, n another time in the food court.
and then, tragedy! sc lost her phone somewhere between bumper cars and euro train. we think it was pickpocketed. poor girl. went back to search for it, but couldn't find it anymore. and then later, at 11.30pm... snow world! if you haven't been to sw, just think... freezing numb fingers, smelly jackets, extra mittens, fake snow in your clothes, hair, mouth, eyes... it was really fun despite almost freezin my fingers off. went out all wet, sweaty and awake. cold really does wake you up.
we sat the euro train again after that i think. then, my friends wanted to see what was it in the cyber cafe that made guys such suckers for gaming (sry la... if anyone terasa). so, i waited outside while they went peepin over peoples' shoulders and maybe disturbing them a lil'. headed back to our hotel after that. then on the way down the escalator, ew was like " hey, that guy has been following us from the cc" and everyone else was like "where? where? what?" . at that time it didn't register into my head yet, so i just kept on walking cos i was really sleepy already. then later when i actually saw the dude tailing us to the hotel lobby, i really really started freakin out.
we wlaked to the lobby, he hid behind a pillar and peeped at us. my friend saw him duck behind it when she turned. when we sat down on the chairs, he sat behind us. we then discussed-discussed about what to do and then when we saw this group of guys going into the lift... we ran and followed them as if we were from the same group. i think we kinda squashed the people at the back of the lift. it was kinda lawak at the same time. lolx. to see their surprised faces when a group of gals (us) suddenly rush by and squeeze into the lift. hahaha...
we were so scared he would follow us to our room and kill us or something... (hehe... imaginations do run a lil' wild at night) that we ran, yes, ran all the way past smelly corridors to our room.
and that was our 1st day of trippin. eventful, no?
